A few questions about World of Warcraft?
Question by ben dover: A few questions about World of Warcraft?
I have never played this game. I have played Final Fantasy XI from day 1. I have gone as far as I can, and FF XIV is just unplayable. I need something new. I have a bunch of questions about WoW. I went to the web site, but it doesn’t tell you the things you really want to know. I want to hear from players.
First; of the 2 sides what one is the best to be on. Now what race is the best on each side. Is it easy to solo, and how do you party. Is it just up to 6 players, or is it the raid thing that everyone talks about.
Now with the classes. What is the best for what race, and can you switch classes at any time. Do you have all the classes when you start, or do you need to do quests to get them. Also is there sub classes. Can you be a Warrior / Druid.
Now with weapons and armor. Can you buy them, and switch to what you want to have on. I was told you need to quest to get weapons and armor, and then it’s bonded to you, and you can’t take it off. And that there is no Auction House the buy and sell things like in Final Fantasy.
PvP questions now. Can a high level character just walk up and kill your low level character. Or is it just if you are a Horde an Alliance character can kill you.
Here is an off the wall question. If you want to be a Goblin can you be Alliance. Or Draenei Horde.
I know I have more questions, but these are the ones that will help me the most if I decide to play. Thank you for any answers you can give me on any of the questions I asked.
Is this game just for the PC or can you play it on the PS2 and PS3 or on you iPod Touch.

first off, the game is only for the PC.
as for which side you want to play on, thats totally up to you, at level 20 you get a mount(when i started it was still 40) i chose NE just for their mounts. but its basically up to you which you want to choose. Their is no best race, but each class is better at things than other classes. Yeah its easy to solo, i didn’t have any help til i got til like level 40, but nowadays its easier to level because of the random dungeon finder tool. And the party is up to 5 people, and the raid can go up to 40 people but the raid instance is only 10 or 25 people now. No you can’t switch classes at anytime you want, which is why you are allowed 10characters per realm and 50 characters total per account. no their are no sub classes. and no you don’t have all the classes when you start, the WOTLK(2nd expansion) is when you get death knights and you have to have a character of at least level 55 to unlock that class.
Yeah you can buy them, but it depends on your class, you can wear Cloth, Leather, Mail, or Plate. a priest for example can’t wear anything but Cloth but a warrior can wear anything. You can buy weapons/armor but i find it easier and less trouble to just get them from questing and dungeons. but yes everything is bonded to you once you equip it, but you can take it off, you just can’t trade it to another player. Everything is BOE or BOP, bind on equip or bind on pickup, basicly it binds when you equip it or when you get it in your inventory. and yes their is a auction house, thats where i make most of my money is by doing the auction house.
Only a horde can attack a alliance and vice versa, and it depends on the server you play on, theirs 4 different servers, rpg, pvprpg, pvp, normal. rpg has rules for how you talk, pvprpg anybody on the opposing faction can attack you whenever and has the same rules for speech, pvp same just you can talk however you please, and normal you can go anywhere and do anything without being attacked, except by npc’s of course and can talk how you want.
No you cant mix and match race’s with factions.
hope this helps, and it can be confusing at first, but you get the hang of it really quick, and the game is REALLY! addicting.

1) Of the two sides, neither is supposed to be better than the other. However, the more experienced players tend to favor Horde over Alliance. Horde players *typically* are better at PvP.
2) The races on each side are all balanced. Each one has minor ability boosts and depending on what you want to do will determine which race is the best fit for you. For example, Draenei get a bonus to jewel crafting and goblins have greater access to in-game banks.
3) Almost all classes can solo in PvE depending on your character build. The number of party members you can have is usually 5. It’s not difficult to create a party. They now have better party finders in Cataclysm. Raids are zone or dungeon specific instances that are just additional challenges in the game where the party can be up to 40 people.
4) As stated before the races only offer minor bonuses and choosing one over another does not hinder or benefit class development. You cannot change your class once chosen and there are no sub-classes. Some classes are not available to all races. For example, Undead can’t be paladins, but Blood Elves can. But your classes are available at character creation and you do not quest to unlock classes, only class skills.
5) Weapons, armor, and item used for quests are usually soulbound, but that does not mean it can’t be removed; it means another player cannot use them. Weapons, armor, and items that are randomly dropped are usually labeled as “Binds when equipped” if they are magical which means when you character equips the item, no other character can equip it. You can sell non-soulbound items on the Auction House or trade with other players just fine. Whoever told you there is no Auction House and soulbound items couldn’t be removed was mistaken.
6) It depends on the server. Some servers are RP or Normal servers where you have to have PvP enabled for a character of the opposing faction to kill you. However, if you’re on a PvP server, you’re always fair game regardless of your level. But players of the same factions cannot kill each other unless they are dueling.
7) Your faction determines what races are available to you. Draenei can only be alliance and Goblins can only be Horde.
The game is strictly for PC. There is a smart phone app for the Auction House, but you’re not really playing the game; just monitoring your bids or, if you pay for the service, placing additional bids.
Okay, so I copy-pasted your question and will delete it out of the answer box as I go…
First off, FF XIV was a disgrace. I tried to love it but it just made me sad.
If you’re looking for something new, WoW is different, but may be refreshing. A trial account is free and it’ll give you an idea of what you’re up against…
Alliance and Horde both have their pluses and minuses. The Alliance is visually beautiful. Their main cities are intricate and elaborate… If you want a darker (less froofy) feel, Horde is the way to go. I personally play Alliance, but I’m a girl. The community on either side will vary depending on the server. No matter where you go, trade chat will be painful to the intellect.
There is no “best race”. Each race has a special racial ability/benefit, but depending on your play style, the best one for you will vary. I could list off the racial abilities for each race, but it’ll be faster if I just send you here: http://www.wowwiki.com/Racial_trait In the end, the “best race” for you will be the one that has the class you want to play, a racial ability that you can use to your advantage, and looks good.
With the new expansion, they have made it VERY easy to solo… I think they have essentially eliminated required group quests. If you want to party with someone you already know, it’s as simple as inviting them to your party with a /p. You can do that with any character as long as you are the same faction. If you want to find people to group with, just ask if anyone’s working on the same quests as you in that area’s general chat. For dungeons and quests, the party size limit is 5 players. For raids it is 25. I think you can add more, but only 25 players can enter the raid.
With classes, you choose a class at character creation. You are locked into that class. Like races, every class has its advantages and disadvantages. Your class will determine what gear you can wear and what spells/attacks/heals/defenses you have. Every class has three sub-classes, or “talent trees”. These are specializations you choose that you acquire at level 10 which allow you to specialize in a particular type of game play. For example, a paladin has Holy, Retribution, and Protection as its three talent trees. If you choose Holy, you will be expected to heal and will receive spells specifically for healing. Retribution is for melee damage and Protection is for tanking. All of this is used in dungeons. WoW dungeons go with the classic MMO 5-man setup of one tank, one healer, and three dps. You asked about being a Warrior/Druid. If you choose to be a Druid, you can go down the Feral tree and either tank (in Bear form) or melee dps (in Cat form). But you cannot be both a Warrior AND a Druid. You have to pick one or the other at character creation.
Weapons and armor: You CAN buy weapons and armor and you CAN switch out what you have on. Armor has different levels. As you level up, you should have armor that has a very close level requirement. You can get this armor from questing or from random drops, or you can buy it in the AUCTION HOUSE. Yes, there IS an auction house. You can filter in the auction house for gear that you can use, and you want to choose gear with stats that are useful to the race/class/spec combo you’ve chosen. Gear has different levels and different materials. The material you can wear is dependent upon which class you have chosen.
Gear is also sorted by level: higher level characters can wear higher level gear and there is junk (gray level) gear – sell it to a vendor or trash it but don’t wear it, common (white level) gear – don’t wear it past level 15, uncommon (green level) gear – good stats, rare (blue level) gear – great stats, and epic (purple level) gear – excellent stats. Weapons are the same way. Note that different classes also use different types of weapons.
Some gear is BoP: Binds on Pickup – once you pick it up, it’s yours. No one else can wear it.
Some gear is BoE: Binds on Equip – you can pick it up, put it in your bags, trade it with other people, mail it to other people… But once you put it on, it’s yours. No one else can wear it.
Some gear is BoA: Binds on Account – any of your characters that can wear that material can wear it and mail it amongst themselves.
When it comes to PvP, with the exception of a one-on-one duel, only opposing factions can kill each other. There are different kinds of servers. Some are PvP or RPPvP servers where higher level players of the opposing faction CAN come up and kill you. On PvE and RP servers, that can only happen if you are flagged for PvP.
So far there is no way to be a traitor to your faction. If you choose a race, you have to be that faction. The character creation screen will make that clear.
Oh… and it’s just for PC (or Mac!)… Hope this helps
And sorry for any grammatical errors… answer too long… didn’t edit. Ha…
